There were few moments of self-awareness within the first year we spent together as a band. There was the scrapped and never to be spoken of again "Song Four", there was that oddly poppy song that made no sense and made me think of the color teal when we played it (also scrapped), and there was Blurry Picture. This song went through weeks of rewrites and it was the sole moment in our career where we decided to not just slap a song together, but actually try WRITING one. We wish we had a finished track of it that doesn't have timing mistakes due to lack of practice and care, as well as a dubbing error from two different takes being spliced together (I won't tell you where that happens because you might not notice it and if I make you notice then you won't stop noticing it and that's bad). But we really liked this song, and we wanted to share it anyway. I think it's widely agreed upon between the three of us (plus Bob) that the riff that we built this song around is probably the coolest sounding thing we've ever written (you'll know which one when you get there, and you'll know again when it reappears near the end).
On another note, the song's full title is actually "One Time I Saw Some Ridiculous Shit Happen but Instead of Taking a Video I Wrote a Song That Paints a Blurry Picture of How I Felt". We were talking about Red Sparowes at practice, and even though we all really like Red Sparowes, we think most of their song titles are really stupid and pretentious. Ryan, out of nowhere (as he is wont to do), just spat out this pretty on point parody of their titling methods, and it became the only song he named. In retrospect, we should have let him name more of them.
